Dear Diane,
Many thanks for the work you put into my training over the past 12 months.

I thought I was reasonably aware of what personal fitness was about, but you have opened my eyes beyond the aerobic environment.

If I were to pick the key benefits that I feel I have gained from, it would be in three areas.

Firstly, the work we did on core strength has changed my entire approach to any day to day activities remarkably. When we first got together, I was visiting an Osteopath for intermittent back pain on and off for 2 -3 years. Whilst the Osteopath always sent me away OK, it was always a temporary fix.

By working on my core strength, I have not needed to visit the Osteopath for some 12 months now – and long may that continue. I have learnt to use my core rather than just my back for a whole array of activities, and also how to keep it strong enough in the future.

Secondly, the ski fit training weeks we did made an enormous difference to my recent trip to Chamonix. I ski with some locals out there, and for the first time felt I could actually keep up with them (well almost). Whilst I don’t feel that it is entirely possible to replicate the actual stresses and strains on the body that skiing puts on you, I feel we came as close as one can in a gym environment.

Finally, I doubt I am much different to most gym members in that motivation to attend is the toughest challenge. There are so many reasons not to go to the gym! Just having a weekly slot booked with you makes a difference because it is scheduled, so there is no debate. It’s like anything in life, if you plan for it, it will happen. If you don’t then don’t be surprised if nothing actually comes of it.

In May 2008 I (Sue) was diagnosed with a long term health condition and advised I needed to improve my general fitness. I reluctantly joined a gym. Luckily for me Diane was one of the personal fitness trainers who encouraged me to persevere and go regularly. From there we moved the training sessions to my home and by this time my husband, who has severe arthritis, got the bug and decided to join in.Thanks to Diane’s enthusiasm and encouragement over 12 months Ron and I are much fitter and realise the importance of regular exercise as you get older. I have undertaken an initial 12 week Personal Training programme with Diane during which, and following, Diane has proven to be not only very professional but also friendly and considerate.

Diane’s approach was to first of all ask and then fully understand what my reasons were for wanting to take up a Personal Training programme. She then tailored the sessions to account for my level of fitness and readiness, whilst increasing the intensity of the programme as the weeks and my fitness level progressed. The programme she devised,while challenging, was varied and interesting. Diane not only covered my physical training but also dietary as well as life style considerations, during and between sessions.

Diane’s approach is certainly one I would recommend and when added to her friendly personality encouraged me to achieve my initial objectives as well as to continue with the changes required by me to retain this achievement.
